Twitter comes to Stoke

February 10, 2009

So here is a real treat for you. As part of my Broadcast Journalism course I have to make a news ‘package’ . This is broadcast during our ‘newsdays’ at university. So here is this week’s package… the online version 😉 .

The online networking site Twitter is coming to our city. Twestival is being held at over 180 cities throughout the world including Stoke-On-Trent. The event aims to bring together users of the website for an evening of fun. The event will also be raising money for Charity: Water.

Among the entertainment at the Stoke event is live music from local bands, a DJ, a raffle and the promise of much interesting conversation. Users can also get involved in the events by buying and uploading music on twestival.fm.

The Twestival has been organised entirely by volunteers. It was arranged by Twitter users in London last year and soon grew to include the whole world. Cities stretching as far away as Helsinki, Istanbul, Madrid and Vienna will all be taking part as well as many in the UK.

The event will take place this Thursday 12th February at The Leopard Hotel in Burslem. Tickets cost £5 and this all goes to help charity:water. For more information on the event visit www.twitter.com/stoketwestival

StaffsLive reporter Chris Heath looked at the in’s and out’s of the social network revolution and asked local people what they thought.
